Mon Master 2025: the application step opens

Students, Institutions

On its Mon Master platform, after the general information phase during which all updated information about the 8,000 Master study courses were presented, the application phase is now open until 24 March 2025. The platform’s user interface has been updated, and students may now complete their file after creating their account entering their study courses after their baccalauréat and their grades. These data will be used as base for application.

The Mon Master platform is available to students who want to register to a first year in Master course in French higher education. The platform allows students to submit a single application using a common schedule determined at national scale. Although following the Mon Master process is mandatory for almost all French students who want to register to a Master’s course, this process is only necessary for specific international students.

Which international students?

The platform’s FAQ provides more information on the type of international applicants who can apply via monmaster.gouv.fr. Students that are required to use the platform are:

  • foreign students who already live in France or those residing in a country of the European Economic Area (countries of the European Union, Andorra, Switzerland and Monaco included) must use the Mon Master platform to apply to Master study courses;
  • foreign students who reside in a country not covered by the Etudes en France process.

To be noted that foreign students residing in a country covered by the Etudes en France must follow Etudes en France to apply in Master.

What study plans to apply to?

Mon Master is open to all students holding a degree corresponding to 3 years of studies or currently studying in a 3rd year of study course.

Using the platform allows you to apply in first year to study courses leading to a “diplôme national de master” (DNM, Master National Degree) taught in French higher education institutions. Master National Degrees (DNM) granted by accredited public institutions, meaning authorised institutions that have been inspected are thus present on the information portal.

The portal also lists study courses leading to DNMs taught by private education institutions preparing to passing the DNM in agreement with a public institution, and private institutions teaching training with a degree granted by a rectoral jury.

What study courses are excluded from the platform?

Applications to specific study courses may be directly submitted to institutions without using the Mon Master platform. These are:

  • study courses taught by institutes of political sciences (nicknamed Sciences Po in French, for “Sciences Politiques”), specific business schools (ESSEC, HEC) or specific engineering schools ;
  • study courses accessible through entry exams in journalist schools.

The ministry also lists study courses absent from the platform and leading to a degree other than the Master:

  • the “mastère spécialisé” (specialised Master), a certification delivered by the Conférence des grandes écoles, is a degree delivered by an institution and not the French State. It shouldn’t be confused with a national Master’s degree since it doesn’t always grant the grade of Master;
  • the MBA, master of business administration, is a degree granted by a private institution “without the State being included in the process of acknowledging the quality of teachings”. This degree doesn’t necessarily grant the grade of Master.

What steps until registration in Master’s course?

The application step has started on 25 February and will close on 24 March 2025. Applications are processed until 02 June 2025. On this deadline, answers to applications of the main step are published on the platform. Depending on the ranking position granted by application review committees and the number of seats available in study courses, students receive “an admission offer or a place on a waiting list” If the application doesn’t match the requirements of the study course, it will be rejected.

When students receive their admission offer, they may, in line with response deadlines, accept it definiteively, accept it temporarily or refuse it. In case they receive several proposals, they must keep only one. To be noted that there is also a complementary step from 17 June to 17 July 2025 for applicants who did not obtain a place during the first step or want to apply again.
