With sports’ MétierScope, sport jobs are more visible and appealing

During the “Summit for employment and occupations in sports” held on June 2023 with representatives from the ministry of sports, employment, higher education and professional trainings, all stakeholders of employment and training have decided to create a platform designed to facilitate access to jobs in the sports industry. The platform results from the need of employers, young graduates and job seekers, and stakeholders of the training industry, and it aims at “making more visible and more attractive the occupations in sports in their broad diversity”, and more concretely, to create 100.000 new jobs in sports.

Two targets for one platform

As France Travail explains, “the occupations of sport, animation and leisure activities have a significant social impact, and helps develop skills and values at the heart of the challenges of social consistency and inclusion”.

The industry, which offers highly diverse careers and work backgrounds, is directed towards two different targets:

• young students and highschoolers who want to be “guided in a simple and concrete way” to training courses and possible funding processes;
• job seekers, employees or freelancers “looking for meaning and professional reorientation”

On a larger scale, MétierScope du sport is directed to all those who are interested in sports and want to work in this industry or those who need precise information on the occupations of “growing industry: missions, skills and requirements”.

Three main sections guide users: information about occupations in sports, training courses and jobs in this industry.

All occupations in sports

The sports’ MétierScope provides access to training courses and jobs in highly diverse industries and backgrounds, whether outside or inside, in a company, for a local public authority or association, and more. All industries are available: supervision, coaching, sport management, events organisation, marketing and business, engineering, sport and health, professional integration through sport, sports tourism, and more.

According to France Travail, working in the sports industry allow to reconcile “work and passion”. The platform explains that today, “a constellation of jobs in the sports and animation universe” reinforce personal development, whether you’re “a fan of football, boxing, fitness, martial arts or outdoor activities, with each discipline needing coaching, and transmission”, but France Travail also explains that you must mark your training plan with relevant certifications and degrees.

The platform lists all possible training plans in the “Se Former” (training courses) section. This section redirects to other websites to discover:

The sports’ sector key figures

According to the latest barometer from the BPCE observatory (a group of analysts), which dedicated a full study of economy of sports, this sector represents:

• 2.6% of the GDP;
• 128,000 companies;
• 400,000 jobs, 1.3% of employee workforce in France;
• 98% of companies created are entities with no employees, including 2/3 sole proprietorships.
• 30% of employees of this sector are employed in a fixed-term contract, and 37% part-time;
• 110 degrees and 1.000 certifications registered.
